Handover of Agro-inputs under Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP) in the District

 

Mitooma District Local Government is one of the implementing partners of the UCSATP. The project is aimed at increasing agriculture productivity, market access and resilience of selected value chains. Part of the project components is provision of agricultural inputs to eligible farmer groups to set up demonstrations aimed at increasing farm inputs. The high-quality agricultural inputs which were handed over included seeds, fertilizers, motorised tricycles, wheelbarrows, spray pumps among others. They were supplied by Plaksman Services Limited which handed them over to the District Leadership, then finally to the beneficiaries.

On May 15th, 2026, the inaugural handover ceremony for input delivery and receipt was held at Ryakitanga Church of Uganda, Ryakitanga Parish, Mutara Subcounty, in Mitooma District. The attendees of the function included, Dr. Kayondo Paddy, the Resident District Commissioner, Karitundu Alex Okanga- the District Chairperson, Tumwesigye Johnnes Kanyeihamba- the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Turingana Ronald – District Internal Security Officer, Ahimbise Apollo – Operations Wealth Creation Coordinator, Monday Swaibuh Lwanga – the project focal person, technical staff, Baguma Julius from M-Cash, farmer groups of Ryakitanga and Nyakizinga and community people.

Karitundu Alex Okanga – the District Chairperson, during his opening remarks expressed his appreciation to the government of Uganda and Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) for bringing the project to Mitooma District. He encouraged farmers to embrace the opportunity and use the inputs provided to work hard and fight poverty in homes. He urged community who had not yet joined the project, to form their groups so that they can as well benefit which will improve livelihoods of people of Mutara, Nyakizinga and Mitooma District as a whole.

Monday Swaibuh Lwanga – the District Production Officer as well as the project focal person gave overview of how far the project has reached. He requested farmers to use the inputs for the intended use. He thanked Plaksman Services Limited for supplying the inputs in time. He urged farmers and other community members not to sell the inputs given to them.

Dr. Kayondo Paddy – the Resident District Commissioner presided over the function. During his remarks, he urged community members to get involved in agriculture and work hard inorder to ensure food security in homes. He thanked government of Uganda for contributing 80% to the project. He further requested community especially parents to nurture their children to avoid them from becoming future thieves and idlers in the community. He says that “prepare the kid, NOT prepare for the kid”.
